Work is underway to reinforce the dam at the Bazar-Korgon Reservoir following the discovery of cracks

Work has begun in the Jalal-Abad region to reinforce the dam of the Bazar-Korgon Reservoir. The work is being carried out by the regional water management department, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the ministry, the decision to carry out the work was made following an inspection of the facility.

“During the inspection, cracks were discovered on the western section of the dam. Given that the structure has been in operation since 1962 and the reservoir was significantly full at the time of the inspection, experts decided to carry out reinforcement work to avoid risks,” the ministry told “Akchabar”.

Work is currently underway at the site using specialized equipment to compact and reinforce the dam’s structure, as well as to stabilize the surrounding area. All activities are being carried out under the supervision of relevant specialists.

The Bazar-Korgon Reservoir covers an area of approximately 322 hectares and holds up to 22 million cubic meters of water. It plays an important role in supplying irrigation water to nearby settlements.
