Nurdán Oruntaev: New schools built under the renovation programme will be among the most modern in Kyrgyzstan

As part of the ‘Open Office’ project, Nurdán Oruntaev, Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services, spoke about the implementation of the programme to build new schools as part of the renovation initiative.

According to him, 36 modern schools are currently being built simultaneously in Bishkek, Osh and the city of Manas, all of which are designed to meet international standards. To speed up the work, some of the sites are being built round the clock, despite the inconvenience this causes to local residents.

The Minister noted that the new educational establishments will be equipped with their own power supply systems, modern classrooms for chemistry, biology and other subjects, rest areas for teaching staff, as well as new furniture and equipment, which are planned to be procured from China.

Particular attention is being paid to the working conditions of teachers and school heads. According to Oruntayev, headteachers’ offices and staff rooms will be fitted with modern designer furniture, whilst the schools themselves will feature contemporary finishes and engineering solutions.

“These will not simply be schools, but modern educational spaces that meet international standards”, — the minister emphasised.

He acknowledged, however, that due to the tight construction deadlines, contractors sometimes have to work at night. Such measures are necessary to ensure the timely completion of the projects and to provide pupils with new learning spaces.
