10/28/2026, 11:51An interactive map showing the accessibility of public buildings for people with disabilities was presented in Bishkek. According to the data presented, Oktyabrsky District was found to be the most accessible district in the capital.
This was announced at the roundtable discussion “Accessible Country 2023–2030: From Commitments to Real Accessibility.”
The map was developed by the Oasis Public Foundation in Kyrgyzstan based on an audit of more than 350 public buildings conducted between 2024 and 2026. The study covered four districts of the capital. The data was collected by people with disabilities themselves, who assessed the accessibility of the city’s infrastructure.
According to the foundation’s program coordinator, Mashkhura Sinavbarova, the survey took into account five key parameters: the presence and quality of ramps, the width of doorways, the availability of elevators, accessible restrooms, and emergency call buttons.
The audit also identified 82 ramps that were unsuitable for use. Common problems included excessively steep slopes, slippery surfaces, a lack of handrails, and insufficient width.
An interactive map will allow people with disabilities to assess the accessibility of public facilities in advance and plan their travel around the city.
The study’s findings will also be used to engage in dialogue with government agencies and further eliminate barriers in the city’s infrastructure.
