12/24/2025, 13:11The Shamshi small hydroelectric power plant has been commissioned in the Chui region. Construction was completed in record time with financial support from the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund. The facility was launched today, December 24.
An agreement to finance the project in the amount of $1 million was signed in October 2024, and just one year later, the plant began generating electricity.
The Shamshi HPP has a capacity of 1.7 MW and an annual output of about 10 million kWh. This is enough to cover up to 12% of the electricity needs of the Chui district of the Chui region.
As noted by Artem Novikov, chairman of the board of the RKFR, the commissioned station is part of the fund's large-scale program in the energy sector.
“This facility is one of 16 projects implemented by the RKFR in the field of electricity generation with a total capacity of about 600 MW and a total output of more than 1.5 billion kWh per year. This is another step towards ensuring the energy security of the Kyrgyz Republic,” he stressed.
Support for small hydropower projects is seen as a key element in achieving the goals set by Sadyr Zhaparov for the modernization and expansion of the country's energy sector. The implementation of the project is also in line with the provisions of the National Development Strategy of Kyrgyzstan until 2030.
