Almost 50 kilometres of new canal to be built for development of the Burgondu massif

Another major project is being implemented in Kyrgyzstan as part of efforts to make effective use of water resources and develop the agricultural sector. This time, special attention is being paid to the Burgundy massif, located in the village of Ak-Turpak in the Kadamzhai district, with a total area of 12,438 hectares.

To date, 7,200 hectares of the area have already been developed and transferred to farmers for use. Currently, the capacity of the Burgundy main canal is 18.8 cubic metres per second. However, due to the gravelly and stony soil in the region, more water is required for irrigation than the average norm.

This has made it necessary to increase the channel's capacity in order to fully develop the remaining land.

If this project is implemented and an additional parallel canal is built, the following results are expected: 5,250 hectares of arable land in the Ak-Turpak ayil district will be steadily supplied with irrigation water; 3,500 hectares of land will be irrigated on the new dykker section. In the village of Kyrgyz-Kyshtak, Mold-Niyazsky Ayyl Okmotu, 2,100 hectares will gain access to water. An additional 2,000 hectares of new irrigated land will also be developed.

Currently, the design of this facility is being carried out by the Kyrgyzsuudolboor company. A total of 49 kilometres of new canal is planned to be built.
