Exports of Kyrgyz maize to Afghanistan began in 2026: 1.1 thousand tonnes were exported there over a five-month period

Between January and May 2026, Kyrgyzstan exported 17,500 tonnes of maize worth $1.6 million. Compared with the same period last year, the volume of exports increased by 24 per cent.

According to the National Statistics Committee, 14,100 tonnes of maize worth 120.2 million KGS were exported between January and May 2025. Thus, in monetary terms, exports rose by 16.8 per cent.

Uzbekistan remains the main buyer of Kyrgyz maize. Over the five-month period, 15.7 thousand tonnes of the product were exported there, worth 115.7 million KGS. This country accounted for around 90 per cent of all maize exports from Kyrgyzstan.

Also in 2026, Kyrgyzstan began supplying maize to Afghanistan – 1,100 tonnes worth 14.7 million KGS. A total of 612.6 tonnes of maize were exported to Tajikistan, worth 9.2 million KGS.

Small consignments of maize were sent to China – 21.7 tonnes worth 265,400 KGS – and to Russia – 6.8 tonnes worth 553,500 KGS. Meanwhile, there were no exports to Kazakhstan this year, whereas 2.4 tonnes of maize had been exported there the previous year.
