Consumer loans have boosted the Kyrgyz economy

In January-March 2025, Kyrgyz banks issued 48.6% more new loans compared to the same period last year. This was reported by analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank.

The main contribution to the growth of the loan portfolio came from consumer lending, which increased 2.1 times, as well as trade lending, which increased by 27.6%. Active lending stimulated domestic demand: domestic trade grew by 10.5%, and the hotel and restaurant sector added 25.1%.

The economy is responding positively to the growth in consumer activity, with GDP increasing by 13.1% in the first quarter compared to last year. Analysts note that the current dynamics point to consumption as a key driver of growth. Rapid retail lending and a revival in the service sector are supporting the economy amid high domestic activity.
