05/14/2026, 17:32Today, 14 May, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Talantbek Soltobaev, met with Kotaro Nishigata, the Permanent Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to expand cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic and JICA.
Minister Talantbek Soltobaev expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan and JICA for their support in developing Kyrgyzstan’s road and transport infrastructure. According to him, with JICA’s support, more than 30 projects aimed at developing the country’s road and transport infrastructure have been successfully implemented. These projects have made a significant contribution to improving the condition of roads, ensuring uninterrupted transport links and enhancing passenger safety.
The Minister also noted that improving the international transport corridors passing through the country, as well as ensuring the safe and uninterrupted movement of passengers and goods, are among the Ministry’s priority areas of activity.
Furthermore, the Minister reported that a number of project proposals, in line with the strategy for disaster risk reduction and protection, had been submitted to JICA, and expressed his hope that they would be favourably considered.
In turn, JICA’s Permanent Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic, Kotaro Nishigata, expressed his gratitude for the close cooperation established with the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
He also briefed the Minister on projects currently being implemented in the country, as well as on new initiatives being considered by the Japanese side.
