Human capital development occupies a special place in the National Program, which is set to run until 2030

Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov met with representatives of the World Bank—the head of the World Bank office in Kyrgyzstan, Hugh Riddell, and senior health specialist, Dr. On December 3, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov met with representatives of the World Bank—Hugh Riddell, Country Manager for Kyrgyzstan, and Mohini Kak, Senior Health Specialist and Team Leader for the Primary Health Care Quality Improvement Program.

The parties discussed the interim results of the program to improve the quality of primary health care, as well as further steps to expand its coverage, increase its effectiveness and sustainability. Particular attention was paid to issues of human resource development, private sector involvement, and strengthening measures to protect children's health, including possible regulation of the sale of sugar-sweetened beverages.

Edil Baysalov stressed that strengthening the healthcare system is a key area of development for the country.

"Kyrgyzstan is entering a new phase of accelerated socio-economic development. President Sadyr Zhaparov has approved the National Development Program until 2030, in which the development of human capital occupies a special place. We expect healthcare spending to more than triple in the coming years," Baysalov said.

He stressed that next year, the salaries of medical workers will increase significantly, and unprecedented government investments will be directed toward the construction of modern medical infrastructure in both Bishkek and the regions.

“The president has appointed a new health minister, setting the system the task of radically updating and improving the effectiveness of the state's approach to healthcare. We look forward to continuing our successful cooperation with the World Bank and other international partners to further strengthen our joint efforts and improve the quality of medical services,” the deputy prime minister concluded.

World Bank representatives confirmed their readiness to provide expert and financial support for reforms aimed at developing primary health care, strengthening human resources, and improving the sustainability of the health care system as a whole.
