Restaurants and cafés are now paying 60% more tax following the introduction of digital monitoring

A pilot project to introduce fiscal software in the catering sector has led to a significant increase in tax revenue. In the first five months of 2026, project participants paid 1.54 billion KGS into the budget — 60% more than in the same period last year.

According to the State Tax Service, the increase amounted to 615.5 million KGS. Average monthly tax revenues rose from 184.2 million to 307.3 million KGS.

The pilot project is being implemented amongst catering businesses in Kyrgyzstan. The FPO enables payment data to be automatically transmitted to the tax authorities, which contributes to greater transparency in business operations.

The tax service attributes the increase in revenue to a reduction in the shadow economy, improved accuracy in recording cash transactions and strengthened tax compliance.

It should be noted that the pilot project to introduce the FPO was launched to enhance business transparency and create a level playing field for all market participants.
