From Karakol to Batken: RKDF Allocates Funding to Revitalize Cinemas Across Kyrgyzstan

The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund has signed an agreement with Atlant Cinema to finance a large-scale project to renovate cinemas in small and medium-sized cities in Kyrgyzstan. The total investment will amount to $1.55 million. The initiative was launched on the instructions of President Sadyr Zhaparov and is being implemented with the assistance of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The project focuses on developing cultural infrastructure in settlements that have long lacked modern cinemas. Unlike Bishkek and Osh, many cities in the country remain without access to quality cinema, especially domestic productions. According to Artem Novikov, head of the RCF, the renovation of six cinemas will begin in the near future, including the 250-seat Cholpon in Cholpon-Ata, as well as in Kerben, Aravan, Belovodsk, Batken, and Tokmok.

Atlant Cinema already operates three successful cinemas in the regions and actively works with the country's leading film companies. The company is committed to promoting the Kyrgyz language and national cinema, collaborating with studios such as 1.1 Studio, Pioneer Production, and Cheber Production.

In addition to its cultural component, the project will also have an economic impact, with plans to create 63 jobs. This will provide additional tax and social revenues and, most importantly, strengthen regional communities by giving them access to a modern cultural space.
