05/26/2025, 16:38According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, the revenues of insurance companies in Kyrgyzstan increased 2.4 times compared to the same period last year and reached 2 billion 97 million soms. The main share — almost 72% — was provided by insurance payments, according to the financial regulator.
Ten out of 17 insurance companies operating in the country remained in the black. The sector's net profit amounted to 109.2 million soms, 2.3 times more than a year earlier. At the same time, six companies reported losses.
The active growth of the market was also supported by a boom in insurance contracts: from January to March, over 624,000 agreements were concluded, almost three times more than in the same period of 2024. Demand for voluntary personal accident and health insurance grew particularly strongly, with 308,600 new policies. There was also a noticeable increase in the number of compulsory property insurance and motor third-party liability insurance policies.
Voluntary insurance continues to account for the lion's share of the market, at 79% of the total number of contracts. Compulsory insurance accounts for the remaining 21%.
As of 1 April 2025, the sum insured under existing contracts amounted to approximately 428 billion som, which is 19% more than in the previous year.
Insurance premium income for the reporting period reached 1 billion 508 million soms, increasing 1.9 times. Insurance claims amounted to 274 million soms, of which the bulk was accounted for by voluntary property insurance: 109.8 million soms for enterprises and 83.4 million soms for citizens.
A total of 9,900 insurance claims were registered in the first quarter. Almost half of these were for personal accident and health insurance, and another third were for voluntary health insurance programmes.
