From 1 April 2025, Kyrgyzstan will start the process of legalisation of vehicles with foreign number plates. According to the Decree of President Sadyr Zhaparov, owners of such vehicles will be able to register them with the State Agency for Registration of Vehicles and Drivers. Legalisation will last until 1 October 2025.

In order to legalise a car, owners need to submit a number of documents, including a certificate of safety of the vehicle design, an application, an identity card, documents confirming ownership, as well as receipts for payment of fees.

All vehicles imported into Kyrgyzstan before 31 December 2024, with foreign number plates that have not been cleared through customs, are subject to legalisation. After legalisation, vehicles will receive number plates of the 10th region. Such vehicles cannot be sold, taken out of the country or used as taxis.
