Sadyr Zhaparov: Tamchy will become Kyrgyzstan’s new financial centre

Sadyr Zhaparov stated that the authorities intend to transform the ‘Tamchy’ Special Financial and Investment Zone into a new financial centre, bringing together international capital, modern financial technologies and investment instruments. He made this announcement on 31 August at the opening of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek.

According to the President, the ‘Tamchy’ Special Financial and Investment Zone was launched on 3 July this year on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. It is subject to a special legal regime.

‘This zone has a special legal regime and operates under English law,’ said Zhaparov.

The head of state emphasised that “Tamchy” is viewed not merely as a platform for attracting individual investments.

“We are transforming Tamchy not simply into an investment zone, but into a new financial centre bringing together international capital, modern financial technologies and investment instruments,” the president stated.

According to him, the creation of such a platform should contribute to the development of Kyrgyzstan’s financial and investment system, as well as to attracting international capital into the country’s economy.

Zhaparov linked the development of ‘Tamchy’ to other major projects being implemented in Kyrgyzstan. In particular, he mentioned the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, the Kambarat Hydropower Station No. 1 with a capacity of 1,860 MW, and the ‘Ala-Too Resort’ tourism cluster.

The President emphasised that the implementation of these projects forms part of the construction of a new Kyrgyzstan — a modern state that preserves its historical heritage whilst simultaneously focusing on economic development and international cooperation.

Zaparov delivered his speech at the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, which began on 31 August and will run until 6 September. The Head of State described hosting the Games in Kyrgyzstan as an opportunity to showcase the country’s historical heritage to the world whilst demonstrating its modern potential.
