Sadyr Zhaparov: Projects are being implemented in Kyrgyzstan that, until recently, seemed unattainable

The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, has stated that a number of large-scale projects are currently being implemented in the country, projects which until recently might have seemed unattainable. He made this statement on 31 August at the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games in Bishkek.

According to the head of state, the implementation of these projects is set to transform Kyrgyzstan’s economic and geopolitical role and create new opportunities for the country’s development.

Japarov cited the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway as one of the key projects. He said that this project is of historic significance and has the potential to reshape perceptions of Kyrgyzstan’s geopolitical role.

“Construction has begun on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, which will reshape perceptions of Kyrgyzstan’s geopolitical role,” said the President.

The head of state also cited the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, with a capacity of 1,860 MW, as another historic project. He said that construction of the hydroelectric power station is proceeding apace.

Zaparov also highlighted the implementation of the ‘Ala-Too Resort’ year-round ski cluster project. He stated that the facility would significantly enhance Kyrgyzstan’s international appeal as a tourist destination suitable for visits throughout the year.

The President emphasised that infrastructure development forms part of a wider effort to shape a new Kyrgyzstan.

“Today, our country is implementing a whole range of large-scale projects that, until recently, seemed unattainable,” said Zaparov.

He noted that, at the same time, the state is working to develop the country’s financial and investment system.

In particular, on 3 July, the ‘Tamchy’ special financial and investment zone was launched on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. It has been granted a special legal status and is set to become one of the tools for attracting investment to Kyrgyzstan.
