12/27/2025, 19:26Sadyr Zhaparov took part in the official launch ceremony of an eco-technological plant for generating electricity by recycling solid household waste at the Bishkek landfill site.
The project was implemented under an investment agreement signed in 2024 between the Cabinet of Ministers and Junxin Huanbao Key Invest LLC. The total investment in the construction of the plant amounted to $95 million, with financing provided entirely by the investor. Twelve hectares of land have been allocated for the plant.
Speaking at the ceremony, the head of state noted that the plant will be the first facility of its kind in Central Asia, combining waste processing and electricity generation. According to him, the project will simultaneously solve the problem of accumulated waste and contribute to the capital's energy supply.
The president recalled that the Bishkek solid waste landfill has been operating since 1974, and over the decades of its operation, about 20 million tons of waste have accumulated there. The daily removal of up to 1,500 tons of waste over many years has had a negative impact on the environmental situation in the city.
The launch of the plant, as Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized, is the result of studying international experience, including the practices of the People's Republic of China, and should become a key element in a systematic solution to the problem of solid waste in Bishkek.
The project provides for the processing of up to 365,000 tons of waste per year, as well as the construction of a clean condensing turbine power plant with a capacity of 30 MW.
“For a clear comparison, I would like to note that this is equivalent to saving about 80,000 tons of coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 100,000 tons,” the president emphasized.
He noted that at the current stage, the plant will process up to 1,000 tons of waste per day, with its production capacity gradually increasing in subsequent stages.
Thus, this plant, on the one hand, solves the problem of waste processing, and on the other hand, provides electricity generation and creates new jobs.
