The KGS turned out to be the weakest currency in the EAEU against the yuan

The average exchange rates of the Eurasian Economic Union countries against the Chinese yuan in March 2026 showed mixed trends compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the national and central banks of the union’s member states, the Kyrgyz KGS weakened against the yuan by 5.8%. This was the most significant decline among the currencies of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Next is the Kazakhstani tenge, which fell by 3.4%. The Armenian dram weakened by 1%, while the Belarusian ruble remained at its previous level. Against this backdrop, the Russian ruble was the only EAEU currency to strengthen against the Chinese currency, rising by 1.2%.

This trend reflects the Chinese yuan’s growing role in settlements and trade within the Eurasian region. For Kyrgyzstan, the KGS’s depreciation against the yuan is particularly acute given the country’s heavy reliance on imports of Chinese goods—ranging from machinery and electronics to clothing and construction materials—which are gradually becoming more expensive.
