Bishkek City Hall employee suspected of extorting 10% of public procurement funds

On 19 January, the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan detained an employee of the Bishkek City Transport Municipal Enterprise while receiving a bribe of 1 million KGS. A criminal investigation has been launched, and other possible participants in the scheme are being investigated.

The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic reports that an employee of the Bishkek City Transport municipal enterprise under the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of the Bishkek City Hall was detained red-handed while receiving a bribe.

According to the investigation, certain employees of the municipal enterprise's public procurement department systematically demanded 10% of the total tender value, creating artificial obstacles and delaying the transfer of funds for work performed.

As a result of operational and investigative measures, the detained employee was remanded in custody at the SIZO GKNB of Kyrgyzstan.

Measures are currently continuing to legally assess the actions of municipal employees and identify other persons involved in the scheme.
