The insurance market in Kyrgyzstan has grown by almost 50 per cent, but companies’ profits have fallen

Insurance companies’ revenues in Kyrgyzstan reached 2.9 billion KGS in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 50 per cent compared with the same period last year. Over 87 per cent of revenue came from customers’ insurance premiums.

However, the sector’s financial performance proved less impressive. Of the 19 operating insurance companies, 11 made a profit, whilst six ended the quarter with losses. The sector’s total profit amounted to 80.5 million KGS, which is 26 per cent less than the figure from a year ago.

Demand for insurance services continued to grow. Over 735,000 insurance policies were taken out between January and March — almost 18 per cent more than a year earlier. The main growth came from compulsory motor third-party liability insurance policies and voluntary accident and health insurance.

The total sum insured under current policies as of 1 April exceeded 852 billion KGS, having doubled over the year. The volume of insurance premiums reached 2.5 billion KGS, which is 1.7 times higher than the level in the first quarter of 2025.

Over the three-month period, insurance companies recorded 14,900 claims and paid out 480.7 million KGS to customers. The largest amounts were paid out under personal property insurance and compulsory motor third-party liability insurance policies.
