Insurers received billions in compulsory motor third-party liability insurance premiums, while paying out less than 200 million KGS

Compulsory motor third-party liability insurance continues to gain momentum and is becoming one of the key segments of the Kyrgyz insurance market.

According to data as of October 1, insurance companies collected 2.05 billion KGS in insurance premiums under MTPL contracts, while the volume of payments under this type of insurance amounted to 160.1 million KGS.

A total of 2.64 million insurance contracts had been concluded in the country by that date. This is 2.8 times more than a year earlier. Of these, 45.3% were compulsory insurance, including MTPL, and 54.7% were voluntary types. The majority of contracts — 87.9% — were concluded with individuals.

The total insured amount for all existing contracts reached 2.33 trillion KGS, almost doubling over the year. MTPL accounted for 30.1% of this volume, or 700.6 billion KGS. This makes it the largest single segment in terms of insured amount.

MTPL accounted for 27.5% of the premium structure, second only to voluntary property insurance and voluntary personal insurance.

Over the first nine months of last year, 24,192 insurance claims were registered (1.7 times more than a year earlier). The total amount of insurance payments increased 1.8 times and reached 920.2 million KGS. At the same time, CMTPL accounted for 160.1 million KGS.

Thus, CMTPL remains one of the most profitable types of insurance for insurance companies, providing a significant inflow of premiums with a relatively moderate level of payments.
