The Ministry of Energy reports that the construction of the Karakul Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), implemented by Chakan HPP OJSC, is already 90% complete and has entered its final stage.

The main construction work has been completed:

  • the HPP building with a machine room, where the main and auxiliary equipment has been installed, has been erected;
  • the main water intake structure, drainage channel and pressure pipeline have been built;
  • the construction of the substation and 110 kV overhead power line has been fully completed, which will allow the transmitted electricity to be fed into the general grid.

Final work is now underway on the installation of relay protection devices, automation and 10 kV cable lines. All work is being carried out in accordance with the investment agreement schedule.

For reference, the design capacity of the Karakul HPP is 18 MW, with an average annual electricity generation of 110 million kWh. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of this year.

The construction of the Karakul HPP is part of the government's policy to develop renewable energy sources and support strategically important energy projects that will strengthen the country's energy security.
