Construction of wastewater treatment facilities in Cholpon-Ata is scheduled for completion in 2027

Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Utilities Nurdan Oruntaev reviewed the progress of the construction of wastewater treatment facilities, which is being implemented as part of the project “Environmental Management of Lake Issyk-Kul and Sustainable Tourism Development” in Cholpon-Ata.

Construction work began in July 2025 and is being carried out by China Road and Alkatash. According to the project, work is underway on the reinforcement of the new sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 14,200 cubic meters per day. Earthworks at 12 pumping stations have been fully completed, and construction has moved on to the next stage.

After the project is implemented, the city of Cholpon-Ata, the villages of Bosteri, Baktuu-Dolonotu, and Kara-Oi, as well as all boarding houses, guest houses, and other facilities located in these settlements. Currently, only 30-40% of the population of Cholpon-Ata is connected to the sewerage system.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027.
