07/29/2025, 13:18The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic is implementing a number of projects aimed at eliminating the electricity deficit. One of these is the construction of the Orto-Tokoi Hydropower Plant in the Issyk-Kul region. To date, Chakan Hydropower Plant OJSC has completed 65% of the construction of the Orto-Tokoi Hydropower Plant.
Work is proceeding according to the approved schedule, and to date, temporary and permanent access roads to the construction sites have been completed, the construction camp, material storage warehouses, concrete mixing facilities, expansion joints, and power supply have been completed, and three suction pipe cones have been installed for each hydraulic unit.
The installation of a 10-tonne gantry crane for the installation of the water intake structure has also been completed, and the 928-metre tunnel has been fully excavated.
Currently, specialists are working on reinforcing and concreting the 928-metre tunnel, as well as installing and assembling the spiral chambers of the hydraulic units. The construction of the hydroelectric power plant is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026.
The time capsule for the Orto-Tokoi HPP was laid on 29 June 2024. The planned capacity of the plant is 21 MW. The commissioning of the Orto-Tokoi HPP will provide electricity to more than 14,000 consumers in the city of Balykchy.
