Students for export. Up to 90% of medical school graduates go abroad - state hospitals lack doctors

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Minister of Health Erchin Cheichebaev reported on the difficulties in providing state hospitals with qualified doctors. Every year, medical universities in Kyrgyzstan graduate about 2,000 students. However, only about 200 of them work in state hospitals. The rest - about 1,800 - either go abroad or work in private clinics.

The problem is that there are very few budget places in medical schools. Those 200 students who studied on the budget are obliged to work 2-3 years in state hospitals, and they can be distributed by regions. And the students studying on a contract basis have no such obligations and can choose any place of work.

In this regard, the Minister emphasized the need to increase the number of budgetary places in medical universities. In addition, he proposed to introduce the same obligation for contract students - to work out internship and residency in state hospitals. This is important to ensure staffing stability and availability of qualified specialists in the state medical system.

“If this is not done, it will be difficult for the country to maintain the level of medical services in state institutions,” the minister said.

Recall that students from India and Pakistan participate in Kyrgyzstan's universities.
