07/07/2025, 21:39Tajikistan has expressed interest in joining the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan strategic railway project. During a bilateral meeting with Chinese Minister of Transport Liu Wei, Tajikistan's Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim asked the Chinese side to assist in implementing this intention. This was reported by the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 12th Meeting of Transport Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states in Tianjin, China.
Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim discussed with Minister of Transport of the PRC Liu Yao the prospects for expanding transport and logistics cooperation between the countries. The parties paid special attention to the multimodal corridor “China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey-Europe,” as well as Tajikistan's role in Eurasian transit routes.
Ibrokhim expressed Dushanbe's interest in becoming a full participant in the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the region. This initiative, implemented with the participation of Beijing, Bishkek, and Tashkent, is designed not only to shorten the route for goods from China to Central Asia and further to Europe, but also to significantly change the transport and economic map of the region.
Dushanbe hopes that the Chinese side will support this step, given the growing volume of cargo traffic between the two countries and the need for new logistics routes.
The Tajik side also proposed increasing the quota of permits for international road transport and allocating warehouse space in Kashgar to Tajik companies.
For its part, the Chinese side expressed its readiness to consider the proposals and facilitate their implementation.
