Trade in Kyrgyzstan grew by 8.4 per cent, but the rate of growth slowed significantly

In January–August 2026, the value of wholesale and retail trade, as well as car and motorbike repair services, totalled 349.4 billion KGS. In real terms, the figure increased by 8.4%.

However, a year ago, trade was growing considerably faster. In January–August 2025, the growth rate stood at 17.9%. The main reason for the slowdown in 2026 was a decline in the volume of wholesale trade in real terms.

The retail market, by contrast, continued to grow at a rapid pace. The volume of retail trade increased by 14.9 per cent. The statistics note that this growth was driven by rising household incomes and the expansion of consumer lending.

The average monthly nominal wage for January–July rose by 28.5 per cent, whilst the volume of loans granted over the seven-month period increased by 48.9 per cent compared with the same period last year. This means that consumer demand continues to underpin the retail sector, despite the slowdown in the wholesale segment.
