Kyrgyzstan's trade turnover with the EU exceeded $837 million — Sydykov discussed cooperation with Remi Duflot

On December 9, Minister of Economy and Commerce Bakyt Sydykov met with the new head of the European Union delegation to Kyrgyzstan, Remi Duflot. The parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral economic cooperation, with particular attention paid to the dynamics of mutual trade.

Bakyt Sydykov emphasized that trade and economic relations with the European Union continue to show steady growth.

“At the end of 2024, trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and the EU exceeded $837 million. Since 2021, mutual trade volumes have increased two and a half times,” the minister said.

He also presented the key areas of the National Development Program until 2030, including industrialization, the promotion of green energy, the formation of a regional hub, and the development of the agricultural sector. Separate emphasis was placed on supporting small and medium-sized businesses and creating more attractive conditions for investors.

Remi Duflot, who took office this year, noted that he has been familiar with Kyrgyzstan since the early 1990s. He recalled that after Sadyr Zhaparov's visit to Brussels, an Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the EU was signed.

“Once the ratification procedures are complete, additional opportunities for deeper cooperation will open up,” he added.

The parties also discussed the potential of the GSP+ regime, which provides Kyrgyzstan with preferential access to the EU market. According to the meeting participants, making the most effective use of this instrument could significantly increase the country's export opportunities.
