Wheat harvest in Kyrgyzstan down by 26%

Kyrgyzstan harvested 490.5 thousand tonnes of wheat, which is almost 174 thousand tonnes less than the previous year. At the same time, the area harvested increased by almost 7 thousand hectares.

According to preliminary data, in 2025, wheat was harvested from 247.2 thousand hectares, which is 2.9% more than the previous year. However, the gross yield fell from 664.8 thousand to 490.5 thousand tonnes — a drop of almost 26.2%.

The main reason was a fall in yield. Whilst in 2024 it stood at 27.7 centner per hectare, this year it fell to 19.8 centner, a drop of almost 29 per cent.

Traditionally, the largest volumes of wheat were harvested in the Chui Region — 174.7 thousand tonnes, the Issyk-Kul Region — 104.2 thousand tonnes, and the Osh Region — 94.4 thousand tonnes.

Despite the expansion of the area harvested, yield figures for the current season were significantly lower than last year’s, leading to a substantial reduction in the total volume of wheat harvested.
