The sorghum harvest in Kyrgyzstan rose by almost 57 per cent, despite a reduction in the area under cultivation

In 2025, Kyrgyzstan harvested 428 tonnes of grain sorghum, which is 56.8 per cent more than the previous year. At the same time, the area under cultivation fell by 10.6 per cent — from 151 to 135 hectares.

According to statistics from the National Statistics Committee, the average sorghum yield in the country rose from 18.1 to 31.7 centner per hectare, an increase of 75.1 per cent.

The largest harvest in 2025 was recorded in the Osh Region, where 237 tonnes of sorghum were harvested from 69 hectares. The yield stood at 34.3 centner per hectare.

In the Chui Region, the gross harvest reached 191 tonnes from 66 hectares, whilst the yield was 29 centner per hectare.

Despite a reduction in the area harvested, sorghum production increased thanks to a significant rise in the crop’s yield.
