In 2026, private driving schools will close, and training at state schools will last more than a year

Starting next year, all private driving schools in Kyrgyzstan will be closed, and training at state schools will last 14 months. This was announced by the president's chief of staff, Kanybek Tumanbayev.

Students will be able to enrol in state driving schools from the age of 16, but will be required to complete practical driving lessons in all seasons. Municipal schools also plan to introduce a subject in which schoolchildren will be taught how to drive a car and learn the rules of the road if they wish.

In addition, Kanybek Tumanbaev said that the country plans to abolish the use of permanent driving licences from the beginning of 2026.
