Bishkek may abolish the charge for carrying pushchairs on public transport

There are plans in Bishkek to exempt parents from paying to carry pushchairs on public transport. During a working meeting with Talant Kaparov, director of the municipal enterprise ‘Bishkek City Transport’, the capital’s mayor, Aibek Junushaliev, instructed officials to look into this matter.

According to the mayor, a mechanism for implementing the initiative must be developed and a one-month pilot scheme launched. During this time, the city authorities must raise public awareness, evaluate the results of the trial and prepare a draft resolution for submission to the Bishkek City Council.

“We need to consider the possibility of allowing mothers with pushchairs to travel free of charge”, — noted Aibek Junushaliev.

During the meeting, the results of the roll-out of the cashless fare payment system were also summarised. According to the director of the municipal enterprise ‘Bishkek City Transport’, 11 payment methods are currently available to passengers. As of 7 July 2026, 735,000 transactions are recorded daily. Thanks to the switch to cashless payments, the city budget receives an additional 1 million soms, and financial inflows have become more transparent.
In addition, inspectors continue to carry out regular spot checks on fare payments.

Night bus routes have also been well received by city residents. Currently, an average of 2,134 transactions are processed on these routes per day. According to passenger feedback, night services not only allow people to travel comfortably around the city but also save money on taxis.

Another directive from the mayor was to explore the possibility of selling special travel cards at the Western Coach Station and the ‘Bishkekavtovokzal’ municipal enterprise. It is envisaged that residents and visitors to the capital will be able to leave their private cars in the coach station car park and, if they wish, purchase a travel card for journeys around the city. Use of the card will be voluntary.

Aibek Dzhunushaliyev also supported the initiative to organise night-time bus services on route No. 13 from the ‘Bishkekavtovokzal’ municipal enterprise. This decision is linked to the start of the tourist season and numerous requests from residents and visitors to the capital who require public transport at night to travel from the bus station into the city.
