06/29/2026, 14:37A new environmental project, ‘Newlyweds Plant a Tree’, has been launched in Bishkek, organised by the municipal enterprise ‘Bishkekzelenstroy’ in collaboration with the company GREEN AIR. The initiative combines family values with the greening of the capital, offering newlyweds the chance to plant a tree on their wedding day.
To take part in the project, you must submit an application via the Bishkek City Council website no later than two weeks before your chosen date. Participants choose the time and location of the planting themselves and pay for the service online via a QR code.
The cost of participation depends on the season and the type of sapling. Planting a tree with a container-grown root system will cost 15,500 KGS between 10 April and 25 October. During the off-season – when using bare-root saplings – the cost is 7,800 KGS.
The programme offers a variety of tree species, including maple, birch, lime, catalpa and chestnut. The specific species and planting location are determined taking into account expert recommendations and the local infrastructure.
A gift voucher for tree planting is also available, which can be purchased as a symbolic gift for newlyweds. As part of the project launch, the first five applicants will have the opportunity to have a tree planted free of charge.
Planting takes place in areas with an irrigation system – in parks, public gardens and other public spaces. However, the specific location may be adjusted by specialists within a one-kilometre radius of the chosen site.
The project aims to develop the city’s green infrastructure and foster an environmental culture amongst city residents.
