The event was attended by representatives of local government, residents and civil society activists from the Orgoch and Jeti-Oguz districts, as well as company experts.
Representatives of Kumtor Operating Company reported on the current status of the deposit, emphasizing that verification and geological exploration work has been completed and access roads and tunnels have been restored.
According to project team leader Almaz Kozhonov, the company plans to begin construction of infrastructure facilities this year, including power lines, access roads, and bridges.
“All work is being carried out in full compliance with technical and environmental standards. We are drawing on many years of experience gained in developing the Kumtor mine,” Kozhonov said in response to questions from local residents.
The hearing discussed environmental protection issues, gold mining methods, the potential impact on the ecosystem, as well as employment prospects for the local population and tax revenues for the budgets of the aiyl okrugs.
Company representatives assured that requirements for minimizing environmental damage will be met at all stages of the project.
We would like to add that the Togolok gold deposit was discovered in 1978 and is located in a remote high-altitude area of the Jeti-Oguz district. According to a feasibility study conducted in 2004, the development of the deposit is considered profitable. A license for the development of the site was issued to Kumtor Operating Company in August 2023.
