Kyrgyzstan may introduce fines for violations in the production of halal products

Cases of pork being found in products with halal certification have been recorded in the Kyrgyz Republic. This was reported on 19 January at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Finance, Budget, Entrepreneurship and Competition Development by Deputy Minister of Economy Sultan Akhmatov.

The meeting considered a bill on the introduction of fines for violations in the production of halal products. According to the document, it is proposed to establish a fine of 7,500 KGS for individuals and 23,000 KGS for legal entities for violating the rules for the production of halal products. A fine of 13,000 KGS is also proposed for violations in the issuance of halal certificates.

According to Akhmatov, the procedure for obtaining and issuing halal certificates is clearly regulated, but some manufacturers violate the established requirements.

‘As you know, there were one or two cases. Pork was found in products labelled “halal”,’ he said.

MP Ulan Primov asked whether such cases had occurred in Kyrgyzstan. Akhmatov explained that it was the Riha company that had not been properly accredited and had had its licence revoked.
