According to Bermet Karabaeva, head of the Labour Department, the updated document has become more compact and easier to apply. Instead of 446 articles, there are now 267, as some provisions have been moved to other laws, merged or deleted.
One of the main innovations was the official recognition of remote and mixed work. Employees can now perform their duties remotely or in a hybrid format, in line with current trends of digitalisation.
Electronic employment contracts and labour books have also been introduced, which simplifies the employment process and makes personnel records more transparent.
An important change has been made to wage disputes: whereas previously the limitation period for such cases was unlimited, now it is three years.
In addition, wages now depend on the volume, quality and complexity of work, taking into account professional standards. And employers will pay a fine of 0.25 per cent for each day of delay for late payment of wages, holiday pay and final payment upon dismissal.
Internships are enshrined as a form of on-the-job training, which should help young specialists adapt to the profession more quickly.
Employment quotas are envisaged for vulnerable groups. In particular, employers are obliged to hire graduates of children's homes and persons with disabilities.
