08/12/2026, 09:53The development of organic farming continues in Kyrgyzstan. According to data from the Department of Processing Industry and Organic Agriculture, as at 30 June 2026, the total area of land used for organic production stood at 101,358.21 hectares.
Currently, 11 cooperatives are engaged in the production and processing of agricultural produce in accordance with international organic production standards. Six of these received the relevant certificates in 2025.
The co-operatives produce and process cotton, medicinal herbs, apricots, beans, walnuts, pistachios and other agricultural produce. This produce is sold on both domestic and international markets. The total area of land used by the co-operatives is 11,392 hectares.
In addition, a producer-led guarantee scheme (PGS) is being introduced in the regions, aimed at developing organic production. Here, vegetables and fruit are primarily grown for sale in local markets. The total area of such land is 85,257.04 hectares.
Pilot private farms specialising in organic production are also being established in the regions. Producers are being provided with information on the PGS system and the requirements for international organic certification. The total area of such farms is 4,709.17 hectares.
The ministry notes that this work will continue. The main priorities remain the expansion of organic production, improving producers’ knowledge, and increasing opportunities for the sale of Kyrgyz organic produce in both domestic and international markets.
