A proposal has been put forward in Kyrgyzstan to make the training of future doctors grant-funded

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Finance Committee, MP Meder Chotonov stated that Kyrgyz citizens wishing to become doctors should be able to study at medical universities free of charge, funded by the state.

According to him, prospective doctors should not have to pay for their studies. He noted that once a tuition fee contract has been paid, the university can no longer impose such strict requirements on students.

The MP emphasised that free education for all those wishing to become doctors cannot be introduced immediately. However, in his view, it is necessary to gradually make education for Kyrgyz citizens at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy free of charge.

“Gradually, the state must move towards educating citizens who wish to become doctors on a grant basis”, — he said.
