Kyrgyzstan has authorised the export of ‘Arashan’ breed breeding sheep

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has amended the decree imposing a temporary ban on the export of farm animals from the country. The relevant decision was adopted on 21 May by Decree No. 361.

The amendments were made to Document No. 160 of 9 March 2026, which had previously introduced temporary restrictions on the export of cattle, horses, sheep and goats reared within Kyrgyzstan. The measures were justified by the need to ensure food security and stabilise food prices.

Under the new amendments, breeding sheep, including lambs and breeding rams, have been exempted from the ban. Consequently, the export of ‘Arashan’ sheep is now officially permitted.

The export of live livestock not reared within Kyrgyzstan and exported via the state operator, the state-owned enterprise ‘Kyrgyz Agroholding’, is also permitted.

At the same time, the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, the State Customs Service and the Border Service have been instructed to step up controls on the illegal export of animals reared in the country.

The decree will come into force seven days after its official publication.

Earlier, Erlist Akunbekov, Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, announced plans to bring the ‘Arashan’ breed of sheep to the international market during a meeting with breeders.
