12/29/2025, 12:29Despite the overall growth in livestock numbers in Kyrgyzstan, certain segments of animal husbandry are showing stagnation and decline. Thus, the number of sheep and goats at the end of 2024 was 6 million 280.3 thousand head. This is stated in the latest report from the National Statistics Committee.
Compared to 2023, the figure increased by 1%, but remained at the same level as in 2020.
Pig farming remains the least popular sector. In 2024, the pig population decreased to 26,600. Over the year, the decline was 10.4%, and compared to 2020, almost 9.8%. The trend indicates a gradual decline in the industry, which previously accounted for an insignificant share in the country's livestock structure.
Experts attribute these changes to consumer preferences, economic feasibility and regional specifics. The growth of poultry farming and stability in sheep farming against the backdrop of a decline in pig farming show that Kyrgyzstan's agricultural sector is adapting to market demand and available resources, and the structure of livestock farming continues to change.
