04/07/2026, 09:00A state agency, the ‘State Directorate for the Construction of the Barskoon–Bedel Motorway’, has been established in Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by the Ministry of Transport.
The new body will be responsible for implementing one of the key infrastructure projects – the construction of the Barskoon–Bedel motorway, which will link the Issyk-Kul region with China. The directorate’s tasks include coordinating the project, monitoring the targeted use of allocated funds, and ensuring compliance with technical, environmental and social standards.
Akylbek Musabaev has been appointed head of the agency.
The road will be approximately 150 kilometres long. The project involves the construction of two tunnels, more than 30 bridges, including two flyovers, as well as protective engineering structures.
The project is expected to take five years to complete. The new route is expected to strengthen transport links between the regions and open up an additional route for international transport between Kyrgyzstan and China.
