The gender gap exceeds 8 years, which explains the predominance of women in older age groups.
The probability of women living to retirement age exceeds 90%, while for men this figure remains at around 80%. In other words, one in ten Kyrgyz women has every chance of reaching old age, while among men the probability is significantly lower.
The sex-age pyramid shows that from around the age of 40, the number of women begins to significantly exceed that of men, and after the age of 80, it almost doubles. This is a direct consequence of higher mortality among men of working age.
The average age of the republic's population continues to grow and is currently 28.9 years, with men averaging 27.9 years and women 29.8 years. At the same time, in the southern regions with traditionally high birth rates — Batken, Jalal-Abad, Osh and Talas regions — the proportion of children and adolescents is higher than the national average, reaching 37–39%.
