Five quarantine plant pests have been detected in Kyrgyzstan over the past four months

Kyrgyzstan’s plant quarantine laboratories carried out nearly 19,000 tests on agricultural produce in the first four months of 2026. During these inspections, specialists identified five species of quarantine-dangerous organisms. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture.

In total, 7,965 samples of plant products were received by the laboratories over the four-month period. The majority were imports — 5,559 samples. A further 1,767 samples were tested for export, 379 as part of routine inspections, and 260 following requests.

During this period, specialists carried out 18,848 examinations. The inspections revealed the presence of the California and mulberry scale insects, the urban weevil, the bindweed, and the rose thistle — pests and weeds classified as quarantine pests.

The Ministry of Agriculture explained that laboratories test agricultural produce for the presence of pests, diseases, weeds and nematodes. Following the examination, producers are issued with a phytosanitary report and recommendations on how to combat the identified threats.
