Three particularly hazardous active ingredients used in pesticides have been banned in Kyrgyzstan

The circulation of three particularly hazardous active ingredients used in pesticides has been banned in Kyrgyzstan. The relevant Order No. 111 was signed following an inspection carried out by the Department of Plant Protection, Chemical Control and Quarantine.

The list of banned substances includes beta-cyfluthrin, bromoxynil octanoate and fenamiphos. The sale of products containing these active ingredients is prohibited within the republic.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and the Processing Industry, the decision was taken on the instructions of the Minister, Erlist Akunbekov.

Prior to the ban being introduced, experts held a working meeting with pesticide suppliers to discuss the composition of the products, their safety and compliance with international requirements. Following this, monitoring of retail outlets selling pesticides and mineral fertilisers was organised across all regions of the country, and an analysis of the products currently in circulation was carried out.

According to the Ministry, the ban is aimed at protecting public health, reducing the negative impact on the environment, improving the safety of agricultural production and ensuring Kyrgyzstan’s compliance with its international environmental obligations.

The Ministry added that work to strengthen quality control of plant protection products and improve the regulatory framework for agrochemical products will continue.
