Digital KGS to be launched in Kyrgyzstan: President signed the law

President Sadyr Zhaparov has approved amendments to the constitutional law on the National Bank to launch a pilot project of digital currency - digital KGS. The document was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on 20 March 2025. The innovations create a legal basis for the emergence and circulation of a digital form of national currency.

According to the law, the National Bank receives the exclusive right to issue digital KGS, determine the procedure for its issue and the functioning of a special platform. The digital KGS will be a legal tender, circulate only in digital form on a platform operated by the National Bank itself.

The bank will also develop payment rules for supervised organisations and establish cryptocurrencies to prevent fraud. This is the first step towards the digitalisation of the country's payment system, in the spirit of global trends.
