Measures to improve air quality and reduce pollution were discussed in Osh

A regular meeting of the interdepartmental working group on improving air quality and reducing pollution levels was held in Osh.

The event, chaired by the city’s deputy mayor, Ernis Toltoev, was attended by representatives of government bodies and municipal services.

During the meeting, measures being implemented in accordance with the directives of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers were reviewed, as well as the progress made in implementing the Action Plan to improve air quality.

Ernis Toltoev noted that air quality is directly linked to public health, and therefore all relevant departments must work together to address environmental issues.

Following the meeting, key areas of focus were identified, including:

• compliance with environmental requirements in industry and the energy sector;
• the phased transition of public transport to environmentally friendly modes of transport;
• the prevention of unauthorised landfill sites and the development of urban greening;
• raising public awareness of environmental issues;
• and strengthening environmental monitoring.

The relevant authorities have been instructed to ensure the timely and effective implementation of the measures set out in the approved plan to improve air quality in the city of Osh.
