The project is aimed at modernising and strengthening the power grid, which will allow new sources of renewable energy to be connected and ensure reliable power supply to the region. To this end, two 200 MVA autotransformers will be installed and new transmission lines will be built to connect the substation to other settlements.
The $35.5 million project is financed by a $23.5 million (International Development Association (IDA) loan, $10 million (Green Climate Fund (GCF) soft loan, and $2 million (GCF grant).
The financing agreement is signed in January 2024 and all internal procedures have been finalised. A tender is underway to select the company that will prepare the tender documentation and oversee construction.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy has already started the equipment procurement process. The Osh Electricity Networks Enterprise is in the process of arranging land plots and permits.
Once completed, the Isanova substation will ensure stable power supply and create conditions for the expansion of green energy in the country.
