The Talas Region is banking on maize: yields of up to 70 tonnes of silage per hectare

In the Bakai-Atin District of the Talas Region, farmers are expanding their maize crops for silage production. According to local farmer Mukhtar Akmataliev, the ‘Limagrain’ variety is gaining popularity due to its high yield and lower water requirements.

This year, the district is placing particular emphasis on growing cereal crops, including maize. This is due to the economic benefits of silage production, which is widely used in livestock farming as feed.

According to the district agricultural development department, between 60 and 70 tonnes of silage can be obtained from one hectare of maize.

The total area of arable land in the Bakai-Atin district is 25,000 hectares. Of this, 238 hectares have been sown with maize this season.

The Ministry of Agriculture notes that developing the fodder base remains one of the priority areas for improving the efficiency of livestock farming and providing farmers with high-quality fodder.
