During his visit, the minister visited the reception and intensive care units of the Talas Regional General Hospital. Currently, major repairs are being carried out at the facility at a cost of 137 million soms allocated from the republican budget. The repairs include the complete replacement of the roof, as well as the internal and external reconstruction of the building, which was built in 2009.
In addition, the minister visited the construction site of a new perinatal centre being built on the grounds of the regional hospital. Construction began in October 2024 and is scheduled for completion in 2026. The total cost of the project is 6 million euros, financed by a soft loan provided by Germany.
Upon completion, the centre will be a modern maternity facility with 63 beds, equipped with advanced medical and non-medical equipment. The centre will include operating rooms, resuscitation rooms and intensive care units. The quality of the construction work is being monitored by two independent technical supervisors, one from Germany and one from the contracting organisation.
During the trip, the minister also highlighted the urgent need for more staff in the region, with the Talas region lacking around 170 doctors. The Ministry of Health, together with local authorities, is taking steps to attract specialists, including offering extra pay and helping with housing.
Erkin Chechebaev noted that in recent years, special attention has been paid to modernising the healthcare infrastructure. Currently, 32 new medical facilities are under construction in the republic, and about 15 facilities are undergoing major repairs.
