This innovative product will be tested in open ground as part of an experiment agreed upon during a bilateral meeting between the ministers of agriculture of Kyrgyzstan and Iran.
The superabsorbent is an organic substance that does not contain fertilisers but has a unique ability to accumulate and retain moisture and up to 40% of the fertilisers applied.
It works as follows: first, the plant consumes the available moisture from the soil, then the water accumulated in the absorbent granules, together with nutrients. According to experts, the absorbent is effective for 3 to 5 years and is completely safe for the soil and plants even after its expiry date, as it is an organic product.
«This superabsorbent is completely harmless. It retains moisture in the soil and significantly reduces water consumption. In countries such as the United States and Canada, even with sufficient water available, the use of superabsorbent is mandatory when planting all crops», — said Kasraei Bahram, CEO of the Iranian company Kum Gostar.
The purpose of the test is to determine the effectiveness of the absorbent in arid climates and high-altitude agricultural areas. Two batches of cabbage will be monitored until autumn: the first will be grown with the addition of the absorbent, and the second without it. This will allow for an objective assessment of the difference in yield, water consumption and overall plant condition. The recommended application rate is 30 to 50 kg per hectare, depending on the crop and climatic conditions.
«The use of superabsorbent in Kyrgyzstan's agriculture could be a new stage in the development of water-saving technologies, especially in the context of climate change and water scarcity», — added Bakyt Mambetov, Director of the Department of Agricultural and Horticultural Expertise.
