Loans at extortionate interest rates. Owner of illegal pawnshop detained in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, an underground financial scheme has been shut down which, according to investigators, was based on loans to people in difficult circumstances who were at risk of losing their property.

On February 12, officers from the State Committee for National Security detained a Kyrgyz citizen suspected of organizing the illegal issuance of loans at unreasonably high interest rates.

According to the agency, the money was provided without the appropriate permits, including against real estate collateral. These were citizens who found themselves in a difficult financial situation — it was they, according to investigators, who became clients of the illegal lender.

According to law enforcement agencies, the scheme allowed for significant profits and could have led to the loss of collateral property by borrowers in the future.

During the searches, documents related to approximately ten real estate properties were seized. In addition, a Baikal smoothbore weapon with ammunition was found, which, according to the SCNS, was stored in violation of the law.

The suspect has been placed in the SCNS detention center. The investigation is establishing all the circumstances of the case, as well as possible accomplices.
